Bucket Bag Made From Scrap Fabric

This is not a step by step project like most DIY's are on my blog. I just wanted to share my latest project with you that I made one day on a whim. Sometimes the creative juices flow so fast there is barely any time to stop to take photos of the process...and sometimes things turn out better that way.
Since I have a lot of projects that include leather, I had lots of scraps lying around including hardware (like the grommets). I've had this faux light brown suede since last summer and haven't done anything with it since so I knew it was time to use it for something. This bag was inspired by a few purses I've seen in pictures on Pinterest. You know, the ones that don't link to an online store to purchase or get a better glimpse of.
This project began with a few sketches and evolved as I started sewing. First I cut the main shapes of the bucket from the leather as well as the lining scrap fabric (two rectangles and a circle) then the geometric shapes for the design.  I attached the grommets using a hammer and weaved a leather cord through the holes. After that I sewed the liner and attached it to the inside of the bag and finished it off with a strap.
This bag was a great reminder that every time I want to make something I don't have to run to the fabric store or the craft goods store, I can use those scrap pieces and make something I'll use. I've used this bag the past week and love it! You know it is a successful DIY when you don't just throw it in the back of your closet. I can't wait to see what else I can make from the extra craft supplies I have lying around.
