Learning As I Go | Part Five

This is a feature of Always Rooney to highlight the good and the bad of "learning as I go" as I document and share about my journey of working for myself, doing what I love & taking time off from school. I want to remember these moments, and maybe...just maybe..other people will be able to relate along the way. I'd love to hear your thoughts and your own journeys (even if they look different) as well please feel free to share.

Here are a few things I've learned about discipline and motivation from working from home.

To stay disciplined, I have found a schedule that works for me. It took some time to rearrange parts of my day, so if you feel like your days aren't living up to their highest potential try changing something about your day. Do you need to wake up earlier? Sleep in five minutes? Work out? Read? Try it all out and see what your sweet spot is on scheduling. For me, the structure to my routines is my morning routine, lunch break, and then stop working around five. The in between moments are always filled with something different like running to the post office, filling orders or working on blog posts, everyday is different.

The plain and simple way I have found to stay motivated is to remember what I get to do, and that I am extremely blessed to be doing what I am doing. It is that simple. This fuels so much of what I do. Through this thought, I understand that I am the one that has to push myself, I am the one that is responsible for that long to-do list, I am the one that determines where the course of my days go and I am the one that has to work hard daily. I've learned that motivation does not come from netflix marathons. I've stopped having the unnecessary noise of TV shows in the background and filled the noise with podcasts, worship music or even silence. I've seen so much growth from this, and my perception of my days are completely different. Try it sometime :)

I've been so encouraged and motivated by this verse:
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." -Zechariah 4:10

How do you stay motivated?

Part 1//2//3//4

  1. When i have a looooong to-do list i get so overwhelmed but just taking it day by day really helps me and when i finish one this, it motivates me to finish another. Worship music and prayer helps. A lot :) but i agree that the best sound sometimes is silence. Love this post :)

  2. I've been having a hard time trying to balance freedom with responsibility. This post has inspired me to find structure. "Motivation does not come from netflix marathons"; truly, wise words. Thank you!

  3. You are seriously so inspirational. Wonderful post! I stay motivated with lists and more lists.

  4. As you said, it all stems from realizing what you're able to be doing, it is a dream for so many, but the reality is definitely different. It has really taken some time to learn what schedule works for me to stay productive at home and get my work done albeit distractions. It's a really good feeling to get to that point.
