One Of My Proudest Acheivements

I went through a few different title choices for this blog post:
"Miracles Do Happen!"
"Equal Rights For Ugly Cakes"
"It's Whats On The Inside That Counts"
"The First Time I Made Something That Tasted Good"
"Throw Me Some Beads!"
"Ugly Cakes Deserve Love Too"
"Find the Dinosaur"

...they could all describe this cake.

I'm on cloud nine. I never bake, or cook, because it is just a disaster 95% of the time. I have been wanting to make a king cake because I miss celebrating Mardi Gras in Alabama- so I dove right in. After three visits to the grocery store, searching all over for a plastic baby (and settling for some plastic dinosaurs), watching youtube videos on how to knead dough, buying an unnecessary bundt cake pan, almost giving up a few times and after many many hours- I made a cake that is edible. Ugly...but edible.

I followed this recipe from Molly Yeh. Everything she makes is gold.

I think it is so ugly because I used almond flour instead of all purpose flour. Work with what ya got, right?

Now, you are all invited over to try it out. I'm excited to see who gets the dinosaur :)

*If you don't know much about Mardi Gras or King Cakes, you can read about them here.
*Also, here is a good laugh for you.

  1. I think it looks really nice ! Abstract but interesting ! and like you say, what does the outside matter ! What's on the inside counts !
    Eb x

  2. Haha! I love how you used the word abstract...thank you!

  3. Isn't that how it's supposed to look?! ;)
